Empire Magazine Analysis- Hannibal

This is a magazine front cover by Empire magazine with the horror film 'Hannbal on the front cover. This shows that it is the main story in the magazine and a good selling feature. The title for the film is written in red which mirrors the colours of the title of the magazine. The colour red also usual demonstrates the ideas of blood and violence. The capital letters give the idea that this man is dangerous and powerful. These ideas are also shown by the dark colour of the picture's background which makes the title of the film show up even more, this colour is also very contrasting with the white of the magazine background and makes the picture seem all the more sinister. The black line around the title of the magazine, 'Empire' will make the audience notice the well known title and draw them in.The small black writing underneath the magazine title 'the UK's no.1 movie magazine' tells the viewer that it is the best magazine out there and causes them to think that they will be interested in the stories. The issue date and price for the magazine it written above the 'M' in the title of the magazine. This is an unusual layout and looks formal and neat.

 

In the top right hand corner of the magazine is the number 40 in big yellow writing. This will intrigue the audience and make them want to know what this number stands for. It also tell the audience that  'pages of new films and DVDs' which will make the audience want to look through the pages and find out more. This would appeal to their target audience of people who are interested in films.

 

the big title about 'Harry Potter 2' draws fans of this particular genre in and cause them to want to buy it. This is a clever thing to do as Harry potter has such a big fan base which will Ame more people buy the magazine.

 

The picture of the film 'Hannibal' is a close up of a scary looking man hidden in the shadows. This camera shot lets the audience see one of the mans eyes which looks thoughtful and dangerous. It also lets the viewer see his facial features clearly which means that his face will stay in the readers mind. Half of his face is covered buy the darkness,this could suggest to the audience that he is evil and has a hidden identity or that he has two personalities.   

 

The small oval on the picture of the film, Hannibal may interest the fans of the film even more as they know that it is a 'World exclusive' and makes them want to find out facts and events in the film. The world exclusive means that the interview is personal to this magazine and they will not see it anywhere else, this may make them think that they don't want to miss their chance. The other writing around the image is also in the same style and is promoting the other things that will be found in the magazine. These may have been placed here on the magazine as they want the fans of the Hannibal film to also look at the writing on the picture and draw them in. The titles of the articles are in a brown and the text beneath the headers in white. This shows up well on the black background and makes the audience pay attention to it.
